Happy New Year Everyone!
With the new year upon us now and a lack of photographic opportunities due to the weather we've had so far, I decided to look back on my photos of the past year or so and pick out some "hidden gems" that went unposted this past year. Among the hidden gems are Abstracts, flower macros, still life, and some sunset and landscapes taken during my 2nd cousin's birthday boat trip around the Halifax Harbour on on August 19th! (the first 3 pictures) I hope you enjoy these and I'll post more as I come across them! I hope you enjoy them! Hello All
After a bit of a haitus, I've added two new albums of pics taken around the Public Gardens and around our neck of the woods. Check them out in "My Photographic Journey" section, they're the ones on top! As always feel free to comment on what you see, good or bad! Hello All!
Recently, I was looking for something to feature on this website that had to do with the history of digital photography and came across this webpage from digital-photography-tips.net. http://www.digital-photography-tips.net/history_of_digital_photography.html It gives a very thorough and interesting take on the very beginnings of digital photography and leads up to the development of digital photography as we know it today. It's well worth a read! Check it out! Pssst! Are you a first time camera buyer? Check out these sites first! http://www.dpreview.com/ http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ http://www.steves-digicams.com/ Hello All!
I've been a bit lazy in posting info about my newest albums on my blog and apologize for my tardiness! As you may have already seen, I have started creating mini albums on my home page to announce my latest albums on my main photography page "My Photographic Journey". These albums of late have concentrated mainly on abstract photography, as the weather is too cold for Portraiture, but as soon as it warms up, I'll be back at it again, especially once my newest portraiture showing "Glam & Blam" opens at Veith Street Gallery on March 29th. Recently, I heard that Veith Street Gallery is participating in another Photopolis Festival and that the main topic of this year will be abstracts and so I may put some of mine into that festival. This Festival is scheduled for November of this year. I'll keep you posted on the dates when I hear of them. That's all for now! Please check out my latest work and feel free to comment! I've just created a new abstracts album featuring some of my "out of this world" photography along with some other interesting abstracts taken from things around the house on February 12th, 2011 using my Canon G10 camera.
I hope you enjoy the album! Any feedback on my photography would be greatly appreciated. See my comment blurb for more details! January 26th -- 28th, 2011 Added some new experimental abstract photography taken recently with my Canon G10. I used everyday items you see around the house as my inspiration for these shots! Please comment if you like what you see! December 4th, 2010 I moved all my photos from and deleted the section "charity concert shoots" from my website, it now exists in my "Portraits By Chris" page intermixed with my other recent portraiture. December 3rd, 2010 I am now finished uploading what I consider to be the best of the November 19th photo shoot I did with Justina Dollard at the Veith Street Gallery. Take a look http://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php and tell me what you think! December 1st. 2010 Added a new slideshow album of pictures I took during a portrait shoot with Justina Dollard that took place at Veith Street Gallery on November 19th. Many good shots came out of the shoot that I haven't added yet, so stay tuned! November 25th, 2010 Added a new slide show album called "Public Gardens 2007-2010" featuring pictures from those years. As I come across other pics taken there during that period, I will add them to the slide show! Enjoy! P.S. If you think you've seen some of this somewhere else, it was previously posted on my "What's New?" section of my home page. I'm trying to include only include important events in that section. Hello fellow photographers!
Just wanted to let you know that the "Film Noir" photo shoot of October 29th and the warm up to it on October 28th that I did in the fire escape of Veith Street Gallery have finally been posted on my Portraits By Chris section. It didn't turn out the way I anticipated and I learned a lot about being prepared for anything as the story below will relate. It all started out to be a Gangster film noir shoot, then as delays and time went on, I kept adding more themes to the shoot to give more variety to the models. Unfortunately, I did not anticipate the absence of two main players who were to provide the guns needed for the Gangster portion of the shoot and so I had to abandon most of my planned shots and substitute knives for guns in some scenes that called for it. This was my first theme shoot and I was floored and unprepared to deal with the change in plan, but I managed to find inspiration in some books I had brought over the previous day to substitute for some of the scenes I had to abandon. I had assistance by CSE (Creative Spirit East) members Aura-Lee Mahoney (modelling as Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn & Grace Kelly) and Dean Morton (model and lighting assistant) as well as the curator of the Gallery until a representative (and friend of mine) of Vegas Entertainment took over from him in assisting with the models and aiding with the lighting. Among the things I learned from the two shoots is to never schedule more than one person at a time to be at a shoot, always schedule your models into separate time slots, or you will feel pressure regarding the time given to each if you don't schedule them separately. Also, make sure you have access (or buy) props that are relevant to your shoot and pick out and note the order of each shot for each model. I intend to follow these guidelines from now on! However, after all was said and done, (and I relaxed a bit) I did manage to get some nice portraits of the models who came, which include: Fallen "Kittie" Matthews, Amanda Plowman, accompanied by Sophie Lavery Grant (taking separate shots) and my friend " Mr. Vegas " representing Vegas Entertainment, who modelled as Alan Ladd and Humphrey Bogart in some shots with Aura-Lee Mahoney as Ingrid Bergman and Veronica Lake). Hello Everyone!
You may have noticed that my website looks a bit different nowadays, this is mainly due to the advice I've gotten recently from an entreprenuer coach I've been consulting about my website recently. Most of the changes are detailed in my new Home page under "What's New?" Most of the announcement you saw in this blog will now be featured on that page, so, unless something major happens, like having one of my pictures from the Alice In Wonderland picnic I took pictures for published this past week in Independant Living Nova Scotia's "The Mainsail" newsletter, most of my less relevant news will be published on my home page. Recently, I've been doing some "film noir" type shoots at Veith Street Gallery (October 28th and 29th) trying to get good material for my portfolio and an upcoming show in April at Veith Street Gallery, which I plan to be a showcase of all the types of photography I've done recently and I have already posted most of them on Facebook but will also a selection of the best from both sessions for your viewing pleasure! Thanks to all who have viewed my site since I started it and please continue to come back. Don't be afraid to leave comments on the comments section of my Home page, I'd love to know what you think of it! Hello!
For your viewing pleasure, I've just finished uploading the pics of my first official model session at Aperture Studios (not counting the Exposure 10 event, which was more an assignment than a official shoot). Despite problems early in the shoot, I managed to take some flattering shots of my models. Among the models I shot were: Fallen "Kittie" Matthews, Amanda Plowman, Sebastian Ross, Ashley Hamilton and Pamela Agada. I learned a lot from this shoot, one of them being that natural lighting is the best kind of lighting if you don't know how to manipulate the studio lights or have someone to show you the ropes. Another thing is always clean up after yourself, which I neglected to do because I was a bit sore from falling on my bum while beginning to cross the street to get to the Studio, which didn't make the owner of the studio very happy! These photos have been edited using Zoombrowser EX 6.2 and PhotoSuite 5.5 and I hope you enjoy the results! Keep me in mind if you need any photos taken for portfolio, business, or promotion purposes! |
